Indian Rupee Rises 7 Paise to 95.19 Against US Dollar in Early Trade

October 30, 2026

The Indian rupee strengthened by 7 paise to 95.19 against the US dollar in early trading on Friday, October 30, 2026. The modest recovery was supported by a weaker US dollar and declining US Treasury yields, although rising crude oil prices and weakness in Asian equity markets limited further gains.

At the interbank foreign exchange market, the rupee opened at 95.21 before moving up to 95.19 against the dollar. In the previous trading session on Thursday, October 29, the domestic currency had closed 2 paise higher at 95.26.

Forex market participants said that sustained foreign investment inflows and a reduction in India's oil import burden could provide stronger support for the rupee over time.

Softer Dollar Supports Domestic Currency

The dollar index, which measures the US currency against a basket of six major currencies, was trading at 101.75, down 0.27% during the reported session.

Lower US Treasury yields also supported the rupee by reducing some of the pressure on emerging-market currencies.

However, the domestic currency's gains remained limited amid concerns over crude oil prices and weak trends in Asian markets.

Anuj Choudhary, Research Analyst at Mirae Asset Sharekhan, said the rupee opened flat to positive because of the weaker dollar and softer US Treasury yields. He added that weak Asian markets and rising crude prices restricted sharper appreciation.

The European Central Bank and the Bank of Japan kept their respective interest rates unchanged, according to the report.

Crude Oil Remains an Important Factor

Brent crude, the global oil benchmark, was trading at $116.09 per barrel, down 1.05% in futures trading.

Despite the decline during the session, elevated international oil prices remain a concern for India because the country depends heavily on imported crude to meet its energy requirements.

Higher oil import costs can increase demand for US dollars among importers, putting pressure on the rupee. A sustained reduction in these costs could therefore improve the outlook for the domestic currency.

Forex analysts also expect the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) to remain an important participant in maintaining orderly movements in the foreign exchange market.

Anindya Banerjee, Head of Commodity and Currency Research at Kotak NEO, said the RBI's presence would continue to play a significant role in managing currency volatility.

Sensex and Nifty Trade Higher

Indian equity markets also recorded gains during early trading on Friday.

The BSE Sensex advanced 138.77 points to 74,289.81, while the NSE Nifty rose 38.95 points to 22,967.10.

However, foreign institutional investors (FIIs) remained net sellers in the previous session. According to exchange data, they sold equities worth ₹943.60 crore on a net basis on Thursday.

Foreign investment flows remain an important factor for the rupee because movements in overseas capital can influence demand for the domestic currency and the US dollar.

IMF Highlights Exchange Rate Flexibility

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has also commented on India's approach to managing currency movements amid energy-related economic pressures.

IMF Communications Director Julie Kozack said exchange rate flexibility should be the preferred policy response to help the Indian economy adjust to external energy shocks. She emphasised that allowing the rupee to reflect the impact of these pressures could support economic adjustment.

Her comments came amid reports of substantial RBI intervention in the foreign exchange market to support the domestic currency.

The discussion highlights the balance policymakers face between limiting excessive currency volatility and allowing exchange rates to respond to international economic conditions.

Global Developments May Influence the Rupee

According to market participants, developments in West Asia, the upcoming US midterm elections and fresh inflation and employment data will be important factors influencing currency movements.

The immediate trading range for the USD/INR pair was estimated at 94.75–95.75.

For Indian businesses involved in overseas trade, imports, exports and international payments, exchange-rate fluctuations can directly affect transaction costs and financial planning. Companies with cross-border exposure may review their cross-border payment services and currency management arrangements to better understand the impact of changing exchange rates.

Although the rupee recorded a modest recovery in early trade, its near-term direction will depend on the movement of crude oil prices, global dollar trends, foreign investment activity and the RBI's approach to currency-market stability.
