FBI Adds Indian-Origin Major Singh to Most Wanted List Over Gang Links

August 20, 2026

Indian-origin gangster Major Singh, 29, has been added to the Federal Bureau of Investigation's (FBI) Most Wanted list in the United States. According to the FBI, Singh is allegedly a key operative of the Jaggu Bhagwanpuria Gang and is linked to a transnational criminal organisation operating in the US, with investigators accusing him of involvement in conspiracies related to racketeering, illegal firearms dealing, and the distribution and possession of controlled substances.

A Gang With Roots in Punjab

According to the FBI, the Jaggu Bhagwanpuria Gang originated in Punjab and has since expanded its operations to California in the United States. The agency describes it as an organised transnational criminal organisation allegedly involved in coordinated criminal activities that span across international borders.

The Charges Against Major Singh

The FBI said a federal arrest warrant was issued against Major Singh on June 25, 2026, by the United States District Court for the Central District of California. Singh has been charged under the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) Act, and is also accused of conspiracy to engage in the business of dealing in firearms without a licence.

The federal agency said these allegations stem from an ongoing investigation into the activities of the broader alleged criminal network. It's worth noting that the charges have not been proven in court, and Singh remains presumed innocent unless proven guilty. The FBI has released his photograph and appealed to members of the public to provide any information that could help investigators locate him.

FBI Appeals for Public Assistance

The FBI has asked anyone with information about Major Singh's whereabouts or alleged activities to contact their local FBI office, or the nearest US embassy or consulate. The agency has also provided an online platform for submitting information directly to investigators.

Singh's inclusion on the Most Wanted list comes as US law enforcement agencies continue intensifying their investigations into transnational criminal networks allegedly linked to Punjab. Before Singh, Nitish Kaushal and Harmanveer Singh had also been placed on the FBI's Most Wanted list over their alleged roles in similar transnational criminal organisations, with those cases involving allegations of trafficking controlled substances across North America.

The FBI had earlier released the photograph of another Punjab-origin individual, Amritpal Singh, who died in February 2025. Gurpreet Singh, another individual from Punjab, has also been named in cases linked to investigations into transnational criminal activities, suggesting this is part of a broader, ongoing pattern of enforcement attention on these networks.

A Bigger, Coordinated Crackdown

In an earlier joint operation involving law enforcement agencies from the US, Canada, and Europe, 24 people linked to three India-based transnational organised crime groups were arrested, with eleven of those arrests taking place in California. These groups have been accused of involvement in multiple criminal activities spanning several jurisdictions.

The US Department of Justice has charged a total of 37 people as part of its Operation Hardball indictment, with the accused including jailed gangsters Lawrence Bishnoi and Jaggu Bhagwanpuria himself.

The ongoing search for Major Singh highlights the growing focus of US federal agencies on alleged organised crime networks with links to India, operating across national borders. This latest FBI action also underscores the agency's continued efforts to investigate alleged firearms trafficking, controlled-substance offences, and other criminal activities attributed to transnational organised crime groups more broadly.
