Delhi Police Bust Insurance Fraud Call Centre in Janakpuri; 43 Arrested Over Alleged KYC Data Misuse

November 5, 2026

Delhi Police have uncovered an alleged insurance fraud operation operating from a call centre in Janakpuri, West Delhi, arresting 43 people, including 32 women and 11 men. Investigators suspect that the operation involved contacting insurance customers and prospective policyholders, obtaining their Know Your Customer (KYC) information under the pretext of selling insurance policies, and allegedly misusing the collected details for fraudulent activities.

The raid was conducted on Wednesday night, November 4, 2026. According to police, the call centre was allegedly using personal and insurance-related information to approach individuals over telephone calls and persuade them to purchase policies.

The case has raised concerns about the misuse of customer information and the risks associated with sharing sensitive identity documents during unsolicited financial or insurance-related calls.

How Did Police Uncover the Alleged Insurance Fraud?

Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) Hareshwar Swami said that a police team raided the suspected call centre in Janakpuri after receiving information about its alleged activities.

During the operation, officers apprehended 43 people who were present at the premises. Police are investigating how the call centre obtained information about existing insurance customers and prospective policyholders, and how that information was allegedly used to approach them.

According to investigators, callers presented insurance products and attempted to convince individuals to purchase policies. During these conversations, customers were allegedly encouraged to provide KYC details as part of the purported insurance process.

The suspected misuse of these details is a central part of the investigation. Authorities are examining whether the information was used to deceive customers, facilitate unauthorised transactions or support other fraudulent activities.

Police identified Vishal Kapoor, a Faridabad resident, as the alleged mastermind of the operation. His suspected role in managing the call centre and coordinating its activities is being investigated.

What Did Police Seize During the Janakpuri Raid?

During the raid, police recovered 43 mobile phones, laptops and several data sheets containing information believed to be connected with the suspected operation.

Investigators also seized a substantial volume of digital data stored on the electronic devices. These records are being examined to determine how customer information was collected, organised and allegedly used.

The digital evidence may help investigators establish the scale of the suspected operation, identify people who were contacted and trace possible links to other individuals or networks.

Police are also examining the roles of those arrested to determine their individual responsibilities. The investigation will need to establish whether all the people present at the premises were knowingly involved in the alleged fraudulent activities.

Why Misuse of Insurance KYC Details Is a Serious Concern

KYC documents contain sensitive personal information that can potentially be exploited for identity-related fraud and unauthorised financial activity. Customers may share these details believing they are completing a legitimate insurance application, making it important to verify the identity of anyone requesting such information.

Individuals should be cautious when receiving unsolicited calls claiming to offer insurance policies, policy upgrades, refunds or special benefits. They should independently contact the insurer through its official customer-service channels before sharing identity documents or financial information.

Businesses operating in insurance and financial services also need appropriate controls over customer data, access permissions and record handling. Proper documentation, internal checks and Shunyatax's financial investigation services can be relevant when examining suspected financial irregularities and reviewing questionable transactions.

Investigation Continues

Delhi Police are continuing to analyse the electronic devices and records recovered from the Janakpuri premises. Investigators are attempting to establish the complete structure of the alleged operation, the extent of customer data misuse and whether additional individuals were involved.

The arrests mark a significant development in the investigation, but the exact scale of the suspected fraud and the individual roles of those apprehended will depend on further evidence and the outcome of the legal process.

The case serves as a reminder that customers should verify insurance-related calls independently and avoid disclosing sensitive KYC information to unverified callers.
