Darbhanga Cyber Police have arrested a man in connection with a suspected cyber-fraud network after investigators traced approximately ₹86.35 lakh in transactions through two bank accounts linked to him. Police said the accounts were connected to 10 cyber-fraud complaints registered in different states.
According to the investigation, the suspected fraud involved people being approached with offers related to cryptocurrency investments, employment, work-from-home opportunities and other financial schemes. Police are examining whether the arrested man was directly involved in the fraud or primarily provided accounts through which the suspected proceeds were routed.
Two Bank Accounts Under Investigation
Police said the two accounts were opened in 2025 at the State Bank of India branch located on the campus of Kameshwar Singh Darbhanga Sanskrit University.
One account was opened on January 3, 2025, and another on May 23. Investigators found substantial financial activity in both accounts over subsequent months.
Around ₹49 lakh was recorded through one account between January 3 and October 13, 2025. The second account recorded approximately ₹37.55 lakh between August 13 and September 2. The combined activity amounted to about ₹86.35 lakh.
Police suspect that money allegedly connected with cyber fraud was deposited into the accounts before being transferred to other bank accounts.
Ten Cyber Fraud Complaints Linked to the Accounts
Investigators found that 10 cyber-fraud complaints from different states were associated with the two accounts.
According to police, the complaints involved alleged fraud linked to cryptocurrency investment offers, job opportunities and work-from-home schemes. The investigation is examining the transaction trail associated with each complaint to determine how the funds moved through the banking system.
The police are also investigating whether the account holder knowingly participated in the alleged fraud or whether the accounts were used as part of a wider network.
Patna Cyber Unit Assists Investigation
The Cyber Crime Special Unit in Patna had reportedly shared information about suspicious bank accounts with Darbhanga investigators.
Police subsequently questioned the accused about the transactions and asked him to provide documents explaining the source and purpose of the money moving through the accounts.
Investigators said he could not provide satisfactory documentation for the transactions under examination. Two mobile phones were subsequently seized and he was arrested.
The case has been registered at Darbhanga Cyber Police Station under Case No. 60/26.
Digital Evidence and Money Trail Being Examined
Police are examining the data recovered from the seized mobile phones, along with the banking records associated with the two accounts.
Investigators are tracing both incoming and outgoing transactions to establish whether the accounts received money directly from alleged victims or whether the funds passed through other accounts before reaching them.
The investigation could also help identify other individuals or accounts involved in the suspected network.
Search for Other Suspects Continues
Police are continuing efforts to identify the people operating accounts that allegedly received money after it moved through the two accounts under investigation.
Investigators are also examining the broader role of the arrested individual and whether other members of an interstate cyber-fraud network were involved.
The case remains under investigation, and allegations against the arrested person have not been established as a final finding of guilt.
Warning About High-Return Online Offers
The case highlights a recurring risk associated with unsolicited online offers promising unusually attractive investment returns, jobs or easy work-from-home income.
People should independently verify investment opportunities and employers and avoid transferring money or sharing sensitive banking information based solely on unsolicited online approaches.
For businesses and individuals, maintaining accurate financial records and monitoring unusual transactions can also support auditing services in india by helping identify discrepancies and maintain clearer financial trails.
